Statkraft is Europe's largest generator of renewable energy, with a total capacity of more than 14,800 MW. The company develops and generates hydropower, wind power, gas power, solar power and district heating and is a major player on the European energy exchanges.

In the UK, Statkraft operates the 56 MW Rheidol Hydropower Station which is the largest of its kind in England and Wales and has generated renewable energy since 1962. By using the rainwater that falls on the surrounding mountains the station produces enough annual energy to power 12,350 homes.

Statkraft is also currently constructing the 315 MW Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm. Sheringham Shoal is located off the coast of Norfolk and is co-owned with Statoil. The 35 kilometre site is located in the Wash and comprises 88 turbines, two offshore substations, two 132 kV submarine export cables of about 22km each as well as a 21.6km onshore cable and new inland substation.

Onshore, Statkraft is also the owner of the Alltwalis Wind Farm in Carmarthenshire in Wales. Alltwalis has been operational since January 2010 and consists of 10 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 23 MW and an annual production of approximately 65 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean electricity - enough to supply around 16,000 households.

The company employs over 3000 staff in more than 20 countries, and is wholly owned by the Norwegian government.
